Top 40 shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018


We have carefully selected 40 of our favourite shows coming to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018.

Whether you prefer comedy, music or theatre – we hope that our recommendations can help you find something you enjoy at the world’s biggest arts festival.

The festival boasts more than 50,000 performances across 400+ venues and lasts for three weeks in August from Friday 3rd to Monday 27th. Some of the acts and performances we have listed are selling out fast – so book soon and don’t miss out!



40 Vertical Influences. DANCE/PHYSICAL THEATRE

The Canadian iconoclastic ice skaters return to Edinburgh's vintage indoor ice rink, sharing their signature mix of movement, wit, speed and grace. In Influences, the performers play with how our body language can influence others. In the second piece of the double-bill, Vertical, audiences are invited to view the artists up close, with seating on the ice. The virtuosity of figure skating joyfully meets the attitude of street dance and the sophistication of contemporary performance. As seen on BBC. 39 Patrick Monahan: #goals. COMEDY

Multi award-winning comedian and Fringe favourite, returns with another brand new stand-up show, #Goals. We all have life goals, whether it's to win the lottery or marry up, make it your goal to come and watch an hour of great comedy from an Irish-Iranian smoggy! Constantly touring, comedy website Ents24 has listed him for the past three years in the top three of the hardest-working comedians in the UK. 38 Onstage Dating. THEATRE (COMEDY)

Bron Batten is going on first dates. Live onstage. Featuring a different person each night, this hilarious and award-winning show has thrilled at festivals all over the world with its unique insight into the world of online dating. 37 50% Canadian, 100 Crazy, Let’s Laugh. COMEDY (STORYTELLING)

Show about family, taking risks and embracing change. Michelle Christine's a Canadian stand-up comedian who unexpectedly fell into the world of comedy. She went to university and worked full-time, then one day was brought into the lunch room and laid off. The company was closing and she was out of a job! She thought: if you can be disappointed being practical, why not struggle with doing something you love? She used her severance package to try a new challenge, and that led her to her second city.

35 Marcus Brigstocke: Devil May Care. COMEDY

Snowflake. Remoaner. Libtard. Brextremist. Feminazi. Piers Morgan. As we divide each other up into more and more unpleasant categories of evil, it's time to establish, once and for all, what is good and what is bad. 33 Sheeps: Live and Loud Selfie Sex Harry Potter. COMEDY (SKETCH SHOW)

Everything is going well in the wider world. No crises on the horizon. Seeing that the coast is finally clear, the Sheeps three are reuniting, despite never having broken up. It will be lots of new sketches and no old sketches. So if you mainly like our older stuff then this one’s not for you. But if you want to see new (wiser) sketches from some old masters (Time Out’s ‘Ones To Watch, 2011') then see it. ‘Clever, arch and multi-layered… hilarious’ (Guardian). ‘The future of British comedy’ (Skinny).

32 The Sorries. MUSIC (FOLK/TRADITIONAL)

Celebrating 10 successful years at the Fringe and a host of sold-out shows, the kilted duo return with more selections from the much-loved Scottish songbook. Inspired by a love of The Corries, Douglas Kay and Martin Philip sing, play and banter their way through an entertaining hour of traditional Scottish and comic songs. 31 Nina Conti Is Monkey. COMEDY (IMPROV)

Nina turns up with her favourite ingredients to bake the perfect showcake when a radical change occurs: Monkey takes unadulterated control of the whole enterprise. Abandoning all etiquette, Monkey is on the loose in a whole new way. 30 The Tape Face Show. COMEDY

Tape Face returns to Edinburgh with a brand-new show! New jokes, new props, same tape. After storming into America and being seen by 51 million people online, Tape Face returns to the Edinburgh Fringe with this UK premier of The Tape Face Show. 29 Zoe Lyons: Entry Level Human. COMEDY

As seen on Live at the Apollo (BBC Two), Mock the Week (BBC Two), Room 101 (BBC One) and regularly heard on BBC Radio 4's News Quiz, Just a Minute, The Now Show and plenty more. This hugely popular comic returns to the Fringe with a fresh crop of quick-fire observational gags, delivered with utter conviction not to mention 'proper laugh-out-loud one-liners' (Herald). 27 Card Ninja. CABARET AND VARIETY

Warning: this show contains ninjas, not magic. Back by popular demand, Card Ninja is a riotous display of comedy and card stunts using playing cards as ninja weapons. Expect deadly and risky fun. Suitable for ages 10+. ***** (Perth Happenings). ***** (Glam Adelaide).

26 007 Voices of Bond. MUSIC (STORYTELLING)

Voices of Bond is a spectacle like no other. Fresh from her sell-out show The Carole King Story at Edinburgh Fringe 2017, sensational vocalist Phoebe Katis invites you on a journey following the captivating world of 007, and the voices that have accompanied this story over the last five decades. Katis delivers with unparalleled passion, electric renditions of hits such as Diamonds are Forever, License to Kill, Nobody Does it Better and Skyfall. With a live band comprising some of the country’s finest players, Voices of Bond is a show you won’t want to miss.

25 Ashley Storrie: Adulting. COMEDY *FREE

Scotland's favourite funny girl and viral internet sensation Ashley Storrie returns to Edinburgh with a brand-new show about not growing up. With the world most likely ending quite soon, Ashley believes we should all have a laugh and be a bit more honest particularly about the myth of "adulthood"... nobody really grows up, we're just great at pretending! 24 Jake Lambert: Little Lost Lad. COMEDY.

Jake lives alone, cuts his own hair, has an ability to remember the exact date he first tasted each specific food for the first time and has a one-eyed cat. If this sounds like it needs some explaining and, let's face it, it probably does, then this is the show for you... Hotly anticipated debut from Leicester Comedy Festival Best Show nominee 2018. 23 Aaron Calvert: Declassified. CABARET AND VARIETY (MAGIC/COMEDY)

What if all the stories you heard were true? Urban legends contained within declassified files are recreated live on stage by master hypnotist Aaron Calvert. Sell-out shows 2016 and 17. 22 Luisa Omielan: Politics for Bitches. COMEDY

Fresh from filming her BBC Three series of the same name, comedy phenomenon Luisa Omielan (What Would Beyonce Do?! and Am I Right Ladies?!) is back with her third stand-up instalment. In her own words, 'I believe it is my right to have an opinion on something I know absolutely nothing about!' Welcome to Politics for Bitches. 17 Cirque Berserk! DANCE, PHYSICAL THEATRE AND CIRCUS. GREAT FOR YOUNG CHILDREN.

Britain’s biggest theatre-circus spectacular makes its eagerly anticipated Fringe debut! 16 Lauren Pattison: Peachy. COMEDY

Following a whirlwind year of awards, nominations and sold-out shows on top of a run at Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Lastminute.com Best Newcomer nominee 2017 Lauren Pattison is back in Edinburgh. 15 Ed Gamble: Blizzard. COMEDY

After a sell-out national tour in 2017, Ed Gamble is back with another bracing flurry of idiocy. Off of BBC Two's Mock the Week, Sky's The Russell Howard Hour, Comedy Central's At the Comedy Store and Drunk History, BBC Two's The Apprentice You're Fired, Channel 4's Man Down, TBS's Conan and a short film he can't remember the name of where he killed a man from ITV's The Bill with a spade. 14 Ivo Graham: Motion Sickness. COMEDY

A feisty new hour about facing the future named after my fourth favourite Hot Chip song (and a beaut by Phoebe Bridgers). As seen/heard on Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, Live from the BBC, Jon Richardson's Ultimate Worrier, Fighting Talk, The Now Show, It's Not What You Know and eating Subway sandwiches in petrol stations. 13 Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room. COMEDY

What does Canada’s first woman to have a worldwide Netflix special have in common with Britain’s first woman to have a worldwide Netflix special? They are both single mothers with too many pets. And they are both Katherine Ryan. This Canadian abroad is the UK’s 2017 break-out star. Katherine recently garnered rave reviews as the presenter and writer of Channel 4's critically acclaimed prime time series, How Did You Get So Rich? and also regularly appears on all the UK's major panel shows from BBC's QI, Have I Got News For You and Live at the Apollo to Dave's Taskmaster Series 2 (which she won) and Channel 4's 8 Out of 10 Cats as well as co-hosting two back to back series of Comedy Central's upcoming Your Face or Mine reboot with Jimmy Carr. 12 Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers: Tribe. MUSIC

UK’s original touring Taiko Tribe returns to the Fringe with a brand-new show of skill, stamina and red-hot rhythms to stir your soul! As Mugenkyo approach their 25th year as Europe’s longest established taiko organisation, they celebrate the growth of their tribe of performers from across the globe, with a captivating performance of sharp synchronisation, mysterious masked movement and sumptuous soundscapes, wrapped up in a breath-taking display of high energy, elegant choreography and powerful earth-shaking rhythms on huge taiko drums. 11 Henning Wehn: Get on With It. COMEDY

Surely the German Comedy Ambassador hasn't bosched out yet another new show? And what's he still doing here anyway? Come and find out. Or else. Henning's most recent television and radio appearances include BBC Two's Live at the Apollo, BBC One's Have I Got News For You and Would I Lie to You, BBC Radio 5 Live's Fighting Talk and BBC Radio 4's The Unbelievable Truth. 9 Steen Raskopoulos: Stay. COMEDY (IMPROV/SKETCH SHOW)

The electrifying new show from the gifted character comedian and improviser. Nominated for both the prestigious Barry Award and Edinburgh Comedy Awards Best Newcomer, Steen's live shows are a 'triple threat of performance, material and charisma.
